Google Chrome: n00b review

I created this list while reviewing Chrome. I’m too damn lazy to rewrite. This post will be updated with more screen shot and more points as I use Chrome.

—FIRST LOOK—
The layout is clean and easy to look at. The colour used is contrasty and easy to distinguish from one menu/panel from another. I like it more than Safari’s (and Mac’s) default layout which lacks contrast, every darn thing is in some shade of grey. It ran Grow Cube (a Flash game) magnificently, probably due to Flash being ran in a separate process.

—TABS—
-Links clicked appears next to the original tab, while new empty tabs appears at the end of the row. This makes surfing easier because links from one tabs are grouped together.

-However, the tabs shrink when more tabs are opened. Thy shrink and shrink and shrink until the tabs = no tabs. Firefox, IE and Safari simply extends with an arrow-button where you scroll around to hunt for the tabs. Opera is clearly the winner, where the tabs can be wrapped into multiple lines. I hate scrolling around just to hunt for the tabs. I like to be able to access all the tabs at one glance.

-Like any other browser, I can just[......]Read more here…

Nice shiny gold

I opened a Gold Investment Account (GIA) with Public Bank on Monday 6 Oct 2008. 20 grams of gold at the price of 95.20 Ringgit per gram. Today it’s 100.79 Ringgit/gram. Maybe I should deposit another 10-20 grams seeing that it’s on a bullish trend. Clickety click for PBB’s gold price.

Of course, there are other ways of trading gold, such trading futures in COMEX, trading in spot gold in London, buying physical gold or buying gold coins (e.g. Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, Krugerrand, US Gold Eagle Coin, Chinese Panda, etc…)

What prompted me to invest in gold is [......]read more here…

Violent dream

I had a weird dream last night. Well, actually all of my dreams are weird-ass. I can never understand any of my dreams and how my dreams progress from one ridiculous scene to another totally unrelated, but equally ridiculous scene. Something like the Scary Movie series, but weirder.

I dreamed that I was in my grandma’s old house. The details remain fuzzy, but I remember escaping from a battle/fight… then I end up at the lawn at the back of the house.

Then I started fighting/sparring with my friends (huh? WTH?). I was doing Brazilian jiujutsu (BJJ), kyukushin karate, savate and some weird ass self-defence moves I created myself. Then I was discussing with my friends about which martial arts is most effective and [.....]

Corrupted card… lost memories

I just had my trusty Sandisk Ultra II CF died out on me. The bl00dy card decided it was a cute idea to corrupt the files inside. Diu. Maybe I bought a fake Sandisk, or maybe I put the card on top of a HDD and kena all the magnetic damage.

I sometimes don’t download files into the PC after a photo shoot. Hey, there’s still lots of space in the card… so I malas lah.

One find day, I removed the card for a few days. When I re-inserted it into the camera, [......]

New Friendster blog

I suspect that Friendster have adopted Wordpress in the blog. The dashboard looks exactly like Wordpress…

This move should have been done 10 years ago. *slaps head!

Townsville, Citiesville… Energyville!

I saw an advertisement in Fortune (or was it Time) magazine by Chevron. For the ignorant Malaysians, Chevron is a large oil company in the US.

Chevron has created the game Energyville to educate the public about energy and what not. Most probably in response to the public’s unease towards petrol being a not-so-green energy.

Blog Update

Have YOU? I Have

“Have you registered?”

That’s something I always ask my friends recently. Then, typical of Chinese [Malaysians], they ask me back the same question. Now let me answer your question:

I have. In fact, I just have it done a few hours ago. In the post office……

Malaysian Chinese? Chinese Malaysian?

Are you a Malaysian Chinese?

Or are you a Chinese Malaysian?

You see, many ethnic Chinese in Malaysia are a confused bunch. They don’t know whether to call themselves Chinese or Malaysian. And gwai lohs who visit Malaysia are always confused by them……

Anti Toll Protest

I bet some of you didn’t know about the toll hike protest/demostration held in Sunway. I knew about the protest through Jeff Ooi’s blog — Screenshots and others politically-aware and issue driven blogs (links are on the right, under ‘Blogs That Matter’). It’s good to see Malaysians exercising OUR RIGHTS as citizens, regardless of RACE.

I had wanted to go. Then I totally forgot about it when the new semester in UKM started. I got caught up with all the mumbo-jumbo that comes with a new sem… and got depressed.

You’ve got to check out this photo by Alan Cheah……

Depressed in UKM

Never felt so depressed before.

Never.

Felt.

So.

Depressed.

Before.

It’s only the first day of my masters course and there is this feeling of dread and gloom. UKM is like the ‘Dementors’ of Harry Potter story book, it sucks life out of you… as if you will never feel happy again!

I Can’t Believe It

Can you f*cking believe it?!

It’s impossible!!

Liverpool 3 — Arsenal 6

WTF?! I simply cannot believe this. I heard it in the radio while driving to UKM on the North-South Highway yesterday morning. I lost control of myself, and the car swerved left and right. Almost terlanggar pokok! I thought there must be a mistake. 3-6 on the score sheet? Then I read the papers this morning and ‘holy sh*t!’

While Malaysia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry
By Michael Backman
The Age
November 15, 2006

MALAYSIA’S been at it again, arguing about what proportion of the economy each of its two main races — the Malays and the Chinese — owns. It’s an argument that’s been running for 40 years. That wealth and race are not synonymous is important for national cohesion, but really it’s time Malaysia grew up.

It’s a tough world out there and there can be little sympathy for a country that prefers to argue about how to divide wealth rather than get on with the job of creating it.

The long-held aim is for 30 per cent of corporate equity to be in Malay hands, but the figure that the Government uses to justify handing over huge swathes of public companies to Malays but not to other races is absurd. It bases its figure on equity valued, not at market value, but at par value.

Death Note to UMNO

Hey anime/manga fans out there? I’m sure you would have heard about this Japanese manga comic — Death Note. If you still have zilch idea about it, you can flip the newspaper: look for the cinema listings. There’s a new movie based on this manga. Same title, same story.
.
For the uninitiated, the story is about the god/angel of death purposely dropped his book on earth. Some smart alec found it. Whose ever name he wrote on the book will die, by heart failure if the way to die is not written.

Broken Bridges going to Ipoh

Broken Bridges

BROKEN BRIDGES is a big musical with an even bigger story of friendship, love and dreams. This charming humorous and touching musical begins in 1950s Ipoh. The protagonist, Ming, seeks to chart his own destiny despite his father’s plans for him. His best friend, Leong, is the obedient son, perfectly content with life in a small town. The stark contrast between these two characters begs the questions: ‘ What’s wrong with the old ways?’ and conversely, ‘What’s wrong with the new ways?’

I missed the one in KL. [sorry Ky-gen]. Yes, the script was written by Teng Ky-gen and Chuang Yik. Both were UKM students. Those who stayed in Keris Mas, UKM would know who Ky-gen is.

It’s a darn good show not to be missed.

I’m going to watch it in Ipoh. On Sunday afternoon Nov 26. Whoever wants to go with me, please let me know ASAP!

Humuhumunukunukuapua’a

Humuhumunukunukuapua’a
.
Say it with me.
“Humu-humu nuku-nuku apoo aa-aa”
.
Try to say it as fast as possible! Hehe!
.
It’s actually Hawaiian. Grace Siromani taught me this phrase - humuhumunukunukuapua’a - right after she came back from her industrial training in Sea World, Hawaii… or was is Sea Park? [sorry Grace, can’t really remember the name].

Wi-Fied
.
My home has been Wi-Fied. Just bought a Belkin wireless router. Now I can even surf/blog/chat while shitting in the toilet!
.
Belkin
.
That’s the Belkin 54G Wi Fi router, next to my third Aztech DSL modem in 2 years. The first modem simply stopped working for no reason one fine day. The next one got fried together with the network card on one stormy day. The router works like a charm. It better be, I paid 170 Ringgit for it. But it heats up pretty quickly. After running it for about 10 minutes, it’s almost hot enough to cook an egg. Wonder why it has holes on its bottom instead of on top to dissipate the heat.

Arsenal vs Liverpool

I received an SMS from Maxis inviting me to Legends Bar in Jalan Sultan Ismail to watch Arsenal vs Liverpool. Food and drinks on the house. Should have gone, at least I got to celebrate like crazy.

It is so sad… Liverpool lost, I’m gonna spell it out: THREE-NIL to ARSENAL.
